Some illegal immigrants have become cops, says MP

By Joseph Bingkasan

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party deputy president Datuk Eric Majimbun claimed today that Illegal immigrants granted citizenship and MyKads by the Federal Government are now holding important posts in the Sabah State’s administration.

Some of them have become teachers while others are in the government enforcement units and several are in the police force, said Majimbun who added: “I have evidence, this is not mere allegations.”.

They are sitting comfortably in the administration of the State and in government enforcement units, he added.

Majimbun, who is the member of Parliament for Sepanggar, told FMT that such were informations reaching him from Sabahans who are disappointed with the ways the Federal Government was handling the illegal immigrants problem in the State.

He also alleged that the illegal immigrants were getting better treatments from the government than the local people, untouched, enjoying government facilities for free and living on State’s lands.

Majimbun maintained that there were hundreds of thousands Illegal immigrants in Sabah whom the Federal Government had granted citizenship and issued with MyKads.

He also said that he was really amazed to note reactions from State Government leaders when it comes to individual status touching on the so-called sensitivity racial so much as to push to the extend of cornering the enforcement authorities such as the police to take action.

He was referring to the State Government’s move in setting up a special committee to investigate how DAP assemblyman for Sri Tanjong (rpt Sri Tanjong) obtained his Native/Citizenship Certificate.

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Haji Hajiji Noor announced the formation of the committee during the State Legislative Assembly sitting last week. Earlier in the week, Barisan Nasional – Umno assemblyman for Sekong Datuk Samsuddin Yahya had questioned how the Sabah DAP deputy chairman secured the certificate.

Wong welcomed the probe, saying that the certificate was issued to him in the early 1980s after his application and that of his brother was vetted by six Native Chiefs (Judges) of the Kota Kinabalu Native Court.

Majimbun pointed out that the State Government should protect the statue on Native Court which is headed by a District Officer as well as the District Chiefs and Native Chiefs at district level as well as the Village Chiefs or Ketua Kampung at village level, all of whom are appointed by the State Government.

‘It seems that some political leaders are now questioning the State Law, especially CAP 64 Interpretation (Definition of Native) Ordinance 1952. Yet the State Government has no political will to amend the Ordinance concerning the issuance of Native Certificate (Citizenship Certificate or Sijil Anak Negeri) which had been frozen since 1984.

Majimbun, who was a former chief judge of the Kota Kinabalu Native Court said, having not lifted the ban on issuance of the certificate, thousands of young generation of natives had been deprived of their rights as `sons of the soil.’

Majimbun said political leaders in the present government seemed trying every means to divert the people’s attention from the severe problem on the illegal immigrants in hundreds of thousands the Federal Government issued with MyKads.

“Worst our rural Sabahans as well as in urban areas have to compete with the illegal immigrants in their daily life,” he said.
