KUALA LUMPUR: The defence team in the sodomy trial of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim closed its case Monday.
However, Solicitor-General II Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden applied for leave from the court to call four more rebuttal witnesses to testify in the Opposition leader's trial.
The rebuttal witnesses are in regards to the evidence by the seventh defence witness Dr Thomas Hoogland, who testified that Anwar was unable to engage himself in the sexual conduct of sodomy due to his back problems.
The prosecution will submit its application to the court Tuesday.
Anwar, 64, is on trial for allegedly performing carnal intercourse against the order of nature on his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at Desa Damansara Condominium in Bukit Damansara, between 3.10 pm and 4.30 pm on June 26, 2008. He faces a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if convicted.
