Two judges quit in Anwar vs Dr M appeal application motion (Updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Two Federal Court judges here this morning recused themselves from the three-man panel hearing Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's application for leave to appeal a Court of Appeal decision to strike out his RM100 million defamation suit against former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Judges Datuk Hashim Yusoff and Datuk Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin agreed to recuse themselves after hearing submissions from both sides on whether a new panel of judges should hear the case.
“My two fellow judges have decided to recuse themselves from hearing this application,” the chairman of the quorum, Chief Justice of Malaya Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria announced after the court stood down for an hour.
