62,000 in Penang to receive RM100 each

A total of 62,000 people aged 60 and above have registered with the state government’s appreciation programme for se-nior citizens.
State Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the highest numbers were from the North-East and North Seberang Prai districts.
He said he expected last-minute registration before the deadline on March 8 as there were more then 132,000 senior citizens in the age range.
“I was flooded with calls during Chinese New Year inquiring about the programme and the registration process.
“The date of the payment will be announced by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng later but we hope that the process to hand out the cheques can be carried out beginning of next month,” he told a press conference at Lim’s office in Komtar yesterday.

Under the programme, those aged 60 and above can register at any constituency ser-vice centre to obtain RM100 per year in re-cognition for their contributions to society.
